SUPERMOM- The Real Mom

That is the real description of our jobs as MOMS we work 24 hours a day seven days a week. We are Mom to all including the lost cat. No matter where we are if we here the word Mom we are sure to look. Even if the kids aren’t with us. The saying of “Once a Mom always a Mom” is so true.

As a Mom I find myself having to juggle a lot. I work at home so I often have to drop what I am doing to come to the rescue of a screaming toddler. Then I get the call, “Mom I need lunch money” so I jump in the car with the screaming toddler who is fighting me to get in the car seat run down, and deliver lunch money. Then the teenager calls, “Mom I need money for a football game can you bring it to me at lunch”. Ok so here we go again deliver the money while I am attempting to entertain the toddler. Even if you work fulltime out of the home you still have to answer to the call of your kids they will call you at work I know my friends tell me their stories we often vent as Moms. Or the school will call, “Little Johnny is sick can you pick him up”. Or the kids will call, “Mom I need money for the book fair”. Or they call to have you settle a fight between them if they have a brother or sister.

As soon as that is done then we have to go grocery shopping oh what fun. Well we manage to get in the store and what fun it is trying to manage my grocery list while managing a toddler who wants to try to climb out of the cart. We are halfway through the store and I remember I forgot milk so I have to try to make it back to the milk. “No honey we do not need anymore cookies” I say as another bag is added to the cart. What fun we have sorting through the cart at the check stand.

Let’s not forget the numerous times we deliver the kids to and from the doctors. While we try to entertain the toddler and the bored child who wants to not sit still in the waiting room. Then if you kids are like mine you are telling them to talk to the Dr., anyway you end up doing the talking for them. Meanwhile you are still working on entertaining the roaming toddler. Or the numerous practices and school events we have been to while I chase a toddler, and wouldn’t you know it the husband had to work so he could not watch her. While the teenagers say “Mom, Can’t you control her she is so embarrassing”. Teenagers what fun, oh well glad to be an embarrassment to them!!!

Being a Mom is fulltime job from answering the calls of a baby at night, to being mediator to sibling rivalry, school volunteer, nurse to sick kids, taxi, and all round negotiator. But we have the endless benefits of our children’s love hugs and kisses, please and thank you’s , we get to watch them grow and mature into young adults. We are molding the future generation which is the best job you could possible have. I love my job of being Mom to my four girls.

Congratulations, you have started your own business, and it’s going rather well. Going SO WELL in fact, that you need to dedicate more time to it. What if that little bit of extra, uninterrupted time, could mean a BIG difference to your income? Of course uninterrupted time is the thing that we all know and miss as work at home moms, in fact it is darn near a thing of the past in most households where there are young children.

What if just having a few extra hours a week of uninterrupted time was all you needed to really break into the next gear, finish that awesome high paying assignment or project?

The fact is, that at some point you may need to consider a hiring someone for a few hours of help so that you can complete your major project or assignment.

Some of us are blessed with extended families that are only to happy to take our children into their homes and their busy schedules, for a morning a week, or an afternoon here or there. However, there will be that one situation where you absolutely HAVE to get things done, your deadline is looming faster than a sprinter on steroids, and murphy’s law, that will be the one day, that all your family are busy, or out of town, or ill.

It *will* happen. You know it will, it has happened before. So what do you do? What about those of you who don’t have extended family nearby, or even in the same country? What do *you* do? Sooner or later you may need the help of a qualified nanny, baby-sitter, or if you’re really lucky an au-pair.

Moms are notorious suckers for punishment, and many are taken aback, or even offended at the idea of having to hire someone. What? We’re not perfect? Who says? Hello? We are all HUMAN. (Ok, as women we know we’re really super human, but still, we’re not perfect). Why not hire someone, who’s job it is to care for and entertain your kids for a few hours?

I learned a valuable lesson from my youngest son, when I made the difficult, heart wrenching decision to let him go to a playgroup for a few hours for the first time.

I was torn apart.Less at the idea of letting him go, but more with the idea that I should have been able to entertain him ceaselessly, see to his every need and still close that multi million dollar deal. Isn’t that what every mother does? Here I was, feeling like I was a failure simply because I could not do it all, all the time, twenty-four hours a day.

Until I realized just how ridiculous that sounded. At what point did I decide that I HAD to be this perfect person, who did everything? It really dawned on me how silly it was, when I was packing his little back-pack to go to the playgroup again and he saw what I was doing, and he started clapping his little hands together and shouting, “Yay, Yay, Yay!!” I realised that the person who ran the playgroup, had chosen this as a career.

She chose it because she loved children.

She chose to spend her time with 5 little youngsters and make their day as fun, as entertaining, as educational, and as routine as possible. Her absolute mission was to make sure that the kids were looked after as well as if she were their real mother, ha ha, their well rested, imaginative, never-runs-out-of-patience mother, who also closes multi million dollar deals. Hah.

Being a mother is something I chose, but reality insists that I also earn an income. My chosen form of income bringing activity is graphic design and photography. It is not child care. Though some aspects of childcare come naturally to mothers, I must admit, that I am absolutely terrible at thinking up fun and games all the time, and certainly not when I’m trying to finish that huge project that demands so much of my attention.

So in the same way that I take my child to the doctor when they are sick, I also choose to take them to a childcare expert when I need time to do what I am good at, and that which allows my children the lifestyle that they enjoy, and some months it is the only reason that the food on the table is there at all.

So if you find yourself in the position where you are needing childcare, I implore you, do not feel like a failure, think of your strengths and the many advantages that YOU and your strengths bring your family, then make your decision.

Being a pear shaped woman myself, I know the struggles involved in trying to achieve a lean and sleek pair of legs. There are a few things I have learned about how to exercise effectively for maximum fat loss in the lower region and balancing out our physiques.

For starters, there are a few things we must accept so that we won’t beat ourselves up with frustration.

1. Accept the fact that you have a pear shape – we carry most of our body fat in the lower half of our bodies (hips, thighs and butt).

2. Consider the fat on your lower region as fat magnets. In other words, it is very easy to attract fat to the thighs, hips and buttocks and very difficult to move (not impossible though!)

3. Accept the fact that you will have to work extra hard to lean out the lower half of your body.

If you can accept the above, then you’ll be armed with a more realistic mindset when working out and trying to lose fat. You’ll be able to be patient with yourself and won’t give up.

Now the good news!

1. It IS possible to lean out the hips, thighs and buttock areas.

2. It IS possible to achieve a great pair of legs.

3. You can balance out your upper body so that you are well proportioned and symmetrical.

So how do we go about leaning out our lower bodies and balancing out our upper bodies?

First, you will have to eat very clean and watch your fat intake.

Stick with fruits, veggies, tuna, tilapia, chicken, lean meats and egg whites.

Eat more of the green types of veggies and lots of salads.

Eat starchy veggies (potatoes, rice, pastas etc…) in moderation.

Drink lots of water.

When eating fruits, try to eat them in the morning, before your workouts.

Try not to eat fruits after 2pm.

Best fruits: all kinds of berries, grapefruit, apples.

Best veggies: brocolli, green beans, asparagus, green, onions, garlic, red, yellow, orange peppers, spinach, cucumbers, tomatoes, lettuce.

Rules:

Never fry your food.

Grill, boil, steam, bake or pan fry with Pam Spray, never in a pan of oil.

If you’re going to have a cheat day, make sure do it early enough so you can burn it off.

Never have a cheat day at night.

Try (if you can!) to only cheat twice a month.

What is a cheat day: ONE cheat meal only! Not a whole day of cheating!

Did I say drink lots and lots of water too?

Ok, so now if you eat this way, you will start noticing yourself getting leaner. You’ll be shedding some fat off of your overall body. Yes, your lower body too! Your pants and skirts won’t fit anymore. So you’ll have to buy a new wardrobe!

But this is not the whole story. In order to create those great lean legs, you will have to exercise differently than your friends and those women in the magazines.

We want to lean out our lower halves and build up our upper halves.

We have special needs, so we must exercise specifically, to meet this need.

>From my experience, pear shaped women need to focus on light to moderate weights with very high volume repetitions in the lower half of their bodies, incorporating lots of cardio workouts too.

The upper half of our bodies need a different plan all together.

To get that symetrical and balanced look, we need to lift heavy weights so that we are widening our shoulders and backs and creating those sexy arms. Don’t fear lifting heavy. We will never get big. And if it’s any comfort to you (or maybe not!), our bodies are the most difficult of all body types to gain muscle.

I know, I know, but we can still get that lean, defined, sexy and well proportioned body we’re seeking.

So this is the plan I use and seems to be working very well. Yes, I am seeing RESULTS. It will take time, but if you are completely determined, patient and focused on your goal, you will achieve that sexy, well proportioned and symetrical body that screams out, “WOW”!

Here’s the work out plan that I am currently using:

Lower body 3 times per week.

Upper body twice per week.

Cardio 6 times per week.

Lower body workout:

Incorporate a variety of leg excersizes such as lunges, squats, butt blaster, leg presses, leg extensions, hip excersizes, leg extensions and hamstring curls.

You can choose 3 – 4 excersizes three times per week.

Example:

Day 1: squats, lunges, leg presses, calves cardio

Five sets each of 35 + repetitions with moderate weight

Rest 30 – 45 seconds between sets

Day 2: leg extensions, hamstring curls, butt blaster

Five sets each of 35 + repetitions with moderate weight

Rest 30 – 45 seconds between sets

Day 3: walking lunges, side walking lunges, steady lunges

Five sets each of 35 + repetitions with moderate weight

Rest 30 – 45 seconds between sets

Don’t worry about the sets and reps in the beginning. Do as many as you can. If you can do more than 35, do more.

Cardio: jogging, treadmill, elliptical machine, jumping rope, swimming, cycling, aerobic classes etc… Just make sure you are working out intense enough to really burn the fat.

Upper Body Workout:

I exercize my upper body twice per week:

Full upper body workout: chest, back, shoulders, tri’s and bi’s, calves

Abs 4 times per week.

I choose 2 – 3 exercizes per body part.

3 sets each for 8 – 10 reps.

Weight is heavy.

Rest about 60 seconds in between sets.

That’s it. I do cardio 6 times per week. Upper body twice per week. Lower body three times per week. Abs 4 times per week, calves 3 – 4 times per week.

I find that this intense workout PLUS eating a CLEAN diet, very effective in leaning out the lower half of our bodies plus balancing out our upper halves.

Make sure you get lots of rest too!

2. Wahm.com/forum – Forums are great because they are a place where likeminded people can come together, share ideas and get motivated. This is a great forum for any woman who works from home or wants to work from home. This is a website just for women which makes it accessible and everyone is very friendly and helpful. 3. CafeMom.com – This website is not just for work at home moms. It’s just for moms in general. But that’s what makes it so great. It has a great community of women who work from home so you can network and learn from successful women. And it also has a great number of people who you can market to so it’s good for multi-taking. Plus you get to talk about your kids which every mom loves to do!
